Success for Norfolk athlete in Special Olympics GB's first National Winter Games.

Annabelle Lamb from Freethorpe secured a gold medal in the Super G, which is a slalom race that is faster and has wider turns than a giant slalom, and a silver in Slalom.

The week-long competition was hosted in Folgaria, Italy, from January 27 to February 3, offering events in alpine skiing and figure skating.

Colin Dyer, chief executive of Special Olympics GB, said: "Huge congratulations go to all athletes on their success at this first National Winter Games.

“Given the daily challenges that people with intellectual disabilities face throughout their lives, it’s a great achievement to be here competing and proudly representing their region at a national sporting event, let alone winning a medal.

“Events in the Special Olympics GB movement bring together so many people and give our athletes new levels of confidence.

"However, it wouldn’t be possible without the support of our event partners Dreams, Gallagher and Sure, along with our stable of corporate partners.”

The delivery of Special Olympics GB's National Winter Games is also supported by The Ski Company and Alpe Cimbra, whilst Inclusive Skating leads the figure skating competitions.

Extending across England, Scotland and Wales, Special Olympics GB provides sports training and competitions for children and adults, and has more than 6,600 athletes benefiting from opportunities in 27 different sports.

The opportunities are delivered by a team of 3,800 volunteers.
