Broadland-Great Yarmouth had a tough away fixture as they travelled to Holt II.

Broadland provided some early pressure but at least three scoring chances were missed. Holt took the lead through a breakaway try and then extended this with two penalties.

Broadland needed to do something quickly and a well taken lineout by Rich Ruddick set a maul, the pack surged forward and captain Phil Buckley broke to score (converted Murray).

The Great Yarmouth side continued with the pressure and within minutes Buckley was again on the scoresheet as he crossed the line (converted Murray).

Simon Ruddick created some space for Buckley to put Jay Webster clear down the side-line, Webster broke from 50 metres and it was only good defence from Holt that prevented a score.

Broadland were working hard and both Adam Towfighi and George Wilson had good runs, but Holt’s defence held firm.

Broadland were dealt a blow when Richard Ruddick was shown a yellow, but 14-man Broadland again moved the ball forward through hard work from Martyn Greenwood and Ryan Gallie, and further work from Ben Collings and Jimmy Dwyer moved the ball well inside the Holt 22 metre line. Asa Morrison got close to goal-line and Ed Dixon picked up the ball to dive over from close range (converted Murray). Tristan Barber put in a good run with some great support from Jake Sewell but with Holt not rolling away, Stuart Murray stepped up to kick a penalty. Tomorrow Broadland-Great Yarmouth have one match with the 2nd XV travelling to play Thetford 2nd XV, kick off is at 3pm.

Crusaders II 40 Broadland-Gt Yarmouth II 5

Broadland-Great Yarmouth turned out away to Crusaders. A confident Crusaders side and an early Broadland handling error lead to the visitors conceding their first try. Broadland fought hard dominating the line out from Paul Abel and with strong running into the Crusaders 22 from Chris Hewitt and Chris Calnon but never managing to deliver the points.

A reshuffle at half time lead to the Broadland scrum solidifying and creating a strong platform for the backs and Rob Burling broke through to score Broadland’s try.

Broadland-Gt Yarmouth III 29 Medics II 33

A poor start from Broadland allowed the Medics two early scores shifting the ball to their faster and smaller backs forcing an early change with Wilkes coming in to the centres which helped the regulators settle and disrupted the medics supply to the backs.

The regulators used their size and strength advantage to good effect winning penalties at scrum time and securing ruck turnovers. Keeping it close to the contact area and working through the phases with the forwards and centres allowed a score each by Rye Bilyard and John Graham, an intercepted pass by the medics bought the half to a close at 19-12.

It was a slow start to the second half for the Regulators, yielding two more scores (conv) for the Medics.

The team was freshened up with Josh Buxton for Dave Long, Tommy Simmons for Mark Miller, Geoff Hawkes for George Jarvis and Phil Smith on for John Graham.

The changes worked and enabled Rye Bilyard to pick up and score from the base of a ruck. Bilyard showing continued in great form as he added his third then fourth try, unfortunately only one score was converted leaving the final score 29-33.
