A new ride soaring 50 metres above Great Yarmouth could appear on the town's seafront.

Observation UK Ltd, the company behind the Ferris Wheel on Marine Parade, has applied to Great Yarmouth Borough Council (GYBC) to erect and operate a 52m tall ride called the Star Flyer.

The ride, a mostly metal structure, will boast 16 individual passenger capsules that seat two people each.

Once in motion, it will provide 365 degree views out over Great Yarmouth.

The proposal is for three years beginning on March 1 this year.

The Star Flyer would have two full-time employees. Opening hours would be Monday to Friday from 11am to 9pm, Saturday from 11am to 10pm and Sundays and Bank Holidays from 11am to 9pm.

The site is in South Beach Gardens, which is owned and managed by GYBC.

A document supporting the application states that the ride's "generic" design and muted colours show the Star Flyer’s "temporary nature and may be preferable to some members of the public".

A decision on the bid is expected by April 3.
