The owner of a retail park in Great Yarmouth has lodged new plans to improve a store unit which has sat empty for three months.

Agent Montagu Evans has applied on behalf of the Gapton Hall Retail Park owner to make the former Halfords store unit "more attractive to prospective occupiers".

Plans have been lodged with Great Yarmouth Borough Council (GYBC) to build a "mezzanine floorspace" inside the premises and make external changes.Plans for the new mezzanine floorPlans for the new mezzanine floor (Image: RGP Architects) Documents estimate that if approved the mezzanine floorspace will increase the total floorspace of the unit by 6pc.

It is hoped that once complete, changes will "improve the prospects of reletting" the unit which has sat empty since September when Halfords announced they were closing after their lease expired.

The application adds that once the work is complete and the building is re-let it will "generate employment" and create other "positive economic benefits".

The vacant space and former Halfords are positioned between Poundland on one side and Marks and Spencers on the other.

Other businesses in the retail park include a McDonald’s drive-thru, TK Maxx, The Range, Boots, Sports Direct and The Food Warehouse.

A new number 730 bus now runs from Great Yarmouth town centre to Gapton Hall Park after campaigners launched a successful bid.
