The Bishop of Norwich is "deeply concerned" about the impact of inheritance tax changes on small farmers, and has tabled a string of questions on the controversial issue in the House of Lords.
The Rt Revd Graham Usher has asked the Labour government to state what assessments it has made about the impact of the changes on young farmers, family succession and nature conservation schemes on small farms.
Bishop Graham, tipped as a potential successor to Justin Welby after he resigned as the Archbishop of Canterbury, said: "I am deeply concerned about the impact of changes to inheritance tax for small farmers, including their mental health."
Hundreds of farmers from Norfolk and Suffolk headed to London this week in protest at the changes.
Chancellor Rachel Reeves sparked fury by announcing agricultural property relief would be cut for farm assets worth over £1m.
Ministers say the vast majority of farms will not be hit by the changes, but many in the sector have said they will be forced to sell off land to meet the costs.
The EDP's Fair Deal for Farmers campaign is calling for ministers to scrap the policy.
