From a family-friendly festival to a fireworks display, here are some cheap or free events happening in Norfolk over the October half-term.

1. Catton Park Lantern Parade

Where: Catton Park, Old Catton, Spixworth Road, NR6 7AA

When: October 25, from 6.15pm

Price: Free, donations encouraged, LED lights: £1 each and available at the start of the walk

The Friends of Catton Park are once again hosting a Lantern Parade and the meeting point is the Spixworth Road entrance, opposite the Old Catton War Memorial, at 6.15pm.

The procession will start at 6.30pm and you can bring your homemade lanterns along.

Children must be accompanied by an adult and glass, candles and floating lanterns are prohibited.

2. Pumpkin Patch

Where: Wroxham Barns, Tunstead Road, Hoveton, NR12 8QU

When: Open on October weekends and daily from October 25 to 30, 10am-3pm

Price: Free entry to the patch, pumpkins start at £2

There are thousands of pumpkins to choose from at this patch, with craft kits and other activities available for a small charge.

New for 2024, Get Me Out of Here! is running at Wroxham Barns from October 25 to November 3.

There will be the opportunity to handle creepy crawlies, get lost in Ranger Rita's Riddle Maze and have a go at Bushtucker Trials -  tickets cost £8.95 for adults, £9.95 for children and under 2s go free.

3. Halloween Scream Trains

Where: Eaton Park Miniature Railway, Norwich, NR4 7AU

When: October 27, 11am-3.30pm

Price: Under 16s: £1, 16+: £2, £4/£5 for unlimited rides

Enjoy a trip on this charming miniature railway and look out for spooky surprises on the way. 

Do not fear though, as the Norfolk Ghostbusters will be on hand to rid the railway of those pesky poltergeists.

Megan-Layla Artistry will also be face painting at the event.

4. Chantry Jack Crow Trail

Where: Chantry Place, Norwich, NR1 3SH

When: October 19-November 3, during centre opening hours

Price: Free

A free activity for families to enjoy over half-term and there will also be a photo opportunity with Scarecrow Jack by H&M HOME. 

Pick up a trail map from Langley's on the lower ground floor then find the decorated crows with letters on in shops around Chantry Place. 

There is the opportunity to win a £100 H&M voucher and other tricks and treats.

5. Wymondham Halloween 'Scarycrow' Trail

Where: Various locations in Wymondham

When: October 25-November 3

Price: Free

Discover hidden 'scarycrows' lurking around every corner in the historic market town of Wymondham. 

Families can follow the free online map and shops The Enchanted Willow and Glamorous Gowns, both in Market Street, will offer photo opportunities.

6. Fireworks Display

Where: Carnser Car Park, Blakeney, NR25 7ND

When: October 26, from 5pm

Price: Free entry, donations encouraged, limited free parking at Blakeney Village Hall with signposted overflow parking at £4 per vehicle (cash only)

This annual 'end of season' event is organised by Blakeney Parish Council.

It will start at 5pm, with the Ruby Flames Entertainment show at 6.15pm, a bonfire at 6.45pm and the fireworks display at 7.30pm. 

There will also be street food vendors, an Adnams Bar, fairground stalls, children's rides and more.

7. Medieval Festival

Where: Norwich Castle Green, NR1 3JU, Norwich Cathedral Upper Green, NR1 4DH

When: November 2, 10am-3pm

Price: Free

There will be two authentic medieval camps, one at each venue, with the chance to experience hands-on crafts, combat skills, weaponry displays and more.

They will be created by the Norwich and Norfolk Medieval Association (NANMA) at the Castle and re-enactment group Ordgar at the Cathedral. 

Snap the Dragon’s Medieval Mouse Trail will run between the two venues.
