Family and friends of a man who died in a car crash are preparing to run a marathon in his honour.

The Dan Leathers charity run will take place for the second year in a row on Saturday, September 21.

The 20-year-old died in hospital following a two-vehicle crash on the A47 in December 2022.

Last year, a half-marathon organised by his friends and family raised more than £17,000 for East Anglian Air Ambulance.

This year they are hoping to raise the same amount for the charity.

The 26-mile run will start in Buckenham and pass through the villages of Lingwood, Blofield, Brundall, Moulton, Cantley, Limpenhoe, Reedham and Freethorpe.

It is hoped the run will finish around 1.30pm at Dan's favourite pub, the Kings Head in Lingwood.

There will be a raffle and an auction, as well as a performance by Leon Mallett.

Members of the air ambulance will also be there with a rapid response vehicle.

Amanda Leathers, Dan's mother, said that organising the event helps the family cope with the grief.

"It keeps us going. It gives us a focus, something positive to concentrate on rather than the negatives of Dan passing away at 20 years of age."

She said if it wasn't for the air ambulance, the family would not have got a chance to say their goodbyes to Dan.

It would also not have been possible to donate his organs which saved the lives of five other people, she said.

Two days before Mr Leathers died, Mr Leathers had been travelling home from work and turning across the road onto the Yarmouth Road at Blofield, when a Range Rover crashed into the side of his Vauxhall Corsa.

Last year, an inquest into his death heard that he may have survived had the other motorist been driving to the speed limit.
