Banger racing nights in Great Yarmouth always prove a hit for petrolheads and families enjoying the mayhem of crashes and close scrapes.

But the racing nights at Great Yarmouth Stadium have led to safety concerns being raised over "dangerous" situations being created by parked cars outside of the venue.

Caister Parish Council has discusssed concerns about the impact of parking outside of the stadium on banger nights at Yarmouth Stadium and reported them to Norfolk Police.

At a meeting, the council heard that on racing nights, pedestrian lanes are being
blocked by cars, and in turn, the cycle lane is then being used by pedestrians, with cars being abandoned on double yellow lines too.Bangers Racing at Yarmouth Stadium - Picture: Paul Cox.Bangers Racing at Yarmouth Stadium - Picture: Paul Cox. (Image: Archant)

Cars are said to be "mounting" the verges and as a result, the situation is "becoming rather dangerous" along Yarmouth Road.

There are additional fears that if action isn't taken soon, then when the new Lidl at the junction between Yarmouth Road and the Caister By-Pass is built, the volume of traffic will become even worse.

The site where the new Lidl is outlined to be built was previously used as an overflow car park for events held at the Yarmouth Stadium.

Locals in the area have said that parking on the night of events is "madness".

Norfolk County Council has been informed about the ongoing issue too.

The stadium's website says the site has a large car park and the fee is £2.

The venue, which also holds greyhound racing meets, is next hosting a banger racing event on Sunday, September 15 -  it is called 'Back To Basics' and starts at 5pm.

This paper has approached the stadium managers for a comment about the issue of parking outside.
