An autistic girl has shared her positive experiences with the Brownies and their many fun adventures.

Sally Longworth, nine and from Great Yarmouth, couldn't be happier about her time as a Brownie.

Sally, diagnosed with autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), recalls the weekly Brownies meetings as the highlight of her week over the last three years.

Later this term, Sally will transition into a local Guides unit.

She explains that school can sometimes be challenging for her, but Brownies always provide a fun-filled escape.

Sally said: “I am so proud to have been a Brownie and have loved going every week.

“We do a lot of things like crafts, baking and learning how to put up a tent.

"It’s so much fun and I’ve earnt lots of badges.

"I’ve made new friends there and I always feel more relaxed afterwards. "

Her mother, Selena Longworth, acknowledges the immense part Brownies played in Sally's life, both with her routine and developing her social skills.

“Her Brownies group has always gone above and beyond to make her feel included in everything.

"They have been a huge support especially as it took such a long time to get a diagnosis for Sally.”

The leaders of the group adapted the sessions to suit Sally's needs, even alerting her to any changes ahead of time.

Brownie leader Lizzy Hurndall expressed her joy in assisting Sally and anticipates seeing her overcome challenges at Guides.

She said: “It has been such a pleasure to be able to support Sally and her family.

"She has made such good progress with us and I look forward to seeing how she thrives in Guides.”
