A Great Yarmouth high school has celebrated its best GCSE results for many years.

There were tears of joy at Great Yarmouth Charter Academy as teenagers collected their grades.

Headteacher Dean Rosembert was "thrilled" to see so many smiling faces.

“We are absolutely thrilled with the pupils for achieving our best ever results that the school has had for many years," he said.

"It is a testament to their hard work, but also, crucially, to the amazing commitment and dedication of our staff here.

"We have recently had a really positive Ofsted rating that recognised the hard work and improvements at the school and that achievement has shown, paid dividends, in our results."

60pc of the pupils at the school in the last academic year were receiving free school meals.

Mr Rosembert said: "We are delighted that we can be making a difference for children in what is undeniably a challenging area.

"We want to continue to be here for our pupils on their journey through education and ultimately continue to be a pillar of the community."
