Two men have been jointly charged with the rape of a woman at a property in Great Yarmouth.

Timitio Noronha, 25, and Estafanio Goncalvas, 22, of Albion Road in Great Yarmouth, both face two charges of rape between February 26 and 27 in 2022.

Noronha spoke only to confirm his name, address and age in the dock at Great Yarmouth Magistrates’ Court.

Magistrates committed him to appear at Norwich Crown Court on September 11 as the case is too serious for their powers.

His defence solicitors said they had been unable to take full instructions due to language difficulties and said there was no indication of a plea.

He was given unconditional bail after prosecutor Holly Postle said the language difficulties meant he would be unable to understand any conditions.

Goncalvas, who is currently on remand at HMP Peterborough in relation to separate charges, did not appear in court.

Rob New, representing him, said efforts were being made to find an interpreter in Tetum, a language spoken on the island of Timor.

Magistrates adjourned his case until August 21.
