A crash on a notorious A47 blackspot was causing long delays for drivers.
The collision happened on the Acle Straight near the Werryman's Way junction near Great Yarmouth.
Gridlock traffic built in both directions from the site of the crash to the Branch Road junction at the other end of the straight.
Emergency services including fire crews were at the scene which was first reported at 10.44am.
Drivers were warned to allow extra time on journeys as traffic in the area continued to worsen before clearing several hours later.
A spokesman for Norfolk Fire and Rescue said: "The scene was made safe and vehicle occupants were released using hydraulic rescue equipment."
