Vandals targeting beach huts in Great Yarmouth have forced a business owner to get rid of them for good.

The owner of Munchies cafe on the North Beach promenade said the repeated attacks on his four beach huts have forced his hand as he cannot keep repairing the huts for them to be attacked again.

The dog-friendly cafe owner, Mark Allen, said it would be "the end of an era" as beach huts had been based on that stretch of beach for more than 50 years.

"It's a real shame. We're a local cafe and know most of our customers very well. And they're just as upset about it as we are."

Mr Allen said CCTV cameras showed nine youths in dark clothing ripping wooden panels off of one hut before throwing them across the beach.

Mr Allen repaired the hut on Sunday, May 5, but the hut was attacked again over the next two nights, with the hut even being rolled over.

All four beach huts were also attacked in the early hours of this morning (May 20).

"This is going to put an end to it for us. One hut is used for storage while the other three have been used as a rentals during the summer.

"Lots of families have had a lot of pleasure being based here year after year. But this has put an end to that. It's very sad."

"Goodness knows why," he said.

"They're not going to be worth repairing now. We'll just have to take them away. It's the end of beach huts here."

Police enquiries are ongoing.
