Norfolk MP schedules second public meeting on flooding

North Norfolk MP Duncan Baker organised a meeting in flood-hit Hickling last month, giving locals the chance to grill a panel of industry experts. 

However, Mr Baker claimed protesters from climate activism group Just Stop Oil infiltrated the meeting.

Now, the MP plans to organise a follow-up meeting in August to find out what progress has been made by representatives from Anglian Water, Norfolk County Council, the Environment Agency, the Internal Drainage Board and Norfolk Strategic Flood Alliance.

The meeting will take place before the winter season, when heavier rain is expected again, and the exact date of the meeting is yet to be confirmed.

Mr Baker said: "Flooding is a major issue for thousands of north Norfolk residents and business owners.

"To have over 200 people in the hall of my public meeting, plus an additional 250 watching live and over 20,000 seeing the recording on my social media, it really does make it crystal clear just how important this matter is.

"I'm determined to see action taken for the communities I represent, which is exactly why I will be hosting a follow-up meeting in late August to ensure all the stakeholder organisations are held firmly to account.

"We need to see a proper review of the actions taken since my meeting in early February, and further ensure we are prepared for the next period of poor weather and heavy rainfall.

"I won't stop working on this issue until our communities are properly protected - we need action, not just words, and by holding a follow-up meeting we will hopefully ensure exactly that."
