A family is celebrating a man's 70th birthday by giving back to the hospital who helped him in his final years.

Melvyn Laing underwent treatment at the Sandra Chapman Centre at the James Paget University Hospital for two and a half years before he died in October 2023.

On what should have been his 70th birthday, January 4, his wife Pauline and niece Sherri visited the hospital in his memory.

His family has been fundraising in Melvyn's name to show their gratitude for the staff's efforts and to lend a helping hand to the Centre and those under its care.

They began a raffle at their shop, Flowermania in Gorleston High Street, over the festive season with £2 from every wreath sold added to the pot.

Sherri also added to the pot with a clairvoyant night at the Mariners Compass pub in Gorleston in November, collaborating with Natasha Keeler who offered her services for free.

Melvyn's legacy is now set to live on with a £1,100 cheque presented to the Sandra Chapman Centre which will go towards new equipment for the Centre and its patients.
