A man has been refused a bid to bulldoze an 'ugly' garage and build a house for his son.
The applicant was seeking permission to demolish an outbuilding and erect a detached self-build house in a garden plot at Tarn House on Yarmouth Road in Ormesby St Margaret.
The site is near the closed First and Last pub. Supporting documents said the plan was to demolish "a rather ugly garage block" and develop "a modern three-bedroom property" for the applicant's son.
There were no objections to the proposal - but planners from Great Yarmouth Borough Council said the location was "within a strategic gap, where the principle of development is not considered acceptable".

"The scheme was not only unacceptable in principle, but the details of the scheme are considered unacceptable," they said.
Documents supporting the application said the house would make use of "an excess of garden" but planning officials disagreed, saying it would result in "insufficient garden space" for the original house.
The proposed dwelling was also considered to be out of keeping with the character and appearance of the surrounding area, they said.
