A family is preparing to celebrate one year since they bought a Norfolk bar and restaurant famous for its Sunday carvery.

The Southey family, who own and run Burgh Hall on Lords Lane in Burgh Castle, are also excited about unveiling their new look function room - which has recently been done up to the tune of £70,000.

David Southey, who runs the venue near Gorleston with his partner Hayley and parents Paul and Pauline, said: "It feels really good to have come through so many hurdles over the last four years.

"But to be in the place we are now with having the place all done up and completing the purchase is really great.

"It's why we wanted to put a special night on just to celebrate the achievements with our customers who have helped make it all possible," the 34-year-old said.

"And also a massive thanks to our wonderful staff who help make the place what it is."

On November 11, local rock and pop band The Uninvited will play a show at the venue to mark the anniversary of when the family purchased the property.

The event will also be an opportunity to see the revamped function room - known as the Plaza Suite - which now boasts a new roof, wallpaper and carpet, as well as a disabled toilet.

The Southey family, who ran the nearby Kingfisher for 14 years, took over Burgh Hall in January 2020 - only three months before the country went into lockdown.

Mr Southey said: "Covid was a bit of a nightmare. We'd spent a lot completely doing up the restaurant.

"But since the end of the restrictions, business has always been good."
