A Norfolk boat-building company has sailed away from a national awards ceremony with two trophies.

Goodchild Marine Services Limited, based in Burgh Castle, was delighted to be honoured twice at the 2023 National Maritime SME Awards, which celebrates the achievements of small and medium enterprises across the UK maritime sector.  

The company, which was established in 1978, bagged the accolades for Best Family Business and National Maritime SME Business of the Year at an awards ceremony during London International Shipping Week.

Alan Goodchild, managing director, of the firm based near Great Yarmouth, said: “These awards are a result of hard work and sacrifice by the family and the entire team."

He said they produce "high quality workmanship which ultimately has resulted in the excellent reputation we have for design, innovation, build quality and our after sales service to all of our customers".

The company, he added, has shown resilience surviving recessions, global financial crisis, Brexit, a pandemic, and the closure of two bridges restricting access to the sea which has caused significant business challenges.
