A restaurant is hoping to keep a cluster of wooden cabins which helped the business stay open during the Covid pandemic.

Kaeti Newport, landlady of The Smokehouse Bar and Grill in Ormesby St Margaret, has applied to Great Yarmouth Borough Council (GYBC) to retain five outbuildings and timber cladding applied to the original building's modern rear extension.

The outbuildings, all made of timber, include a small toilet, a barbeque, a servery and two outdoor seating areas.

These were built on the site in August 2020, during the Covid pandemic, to ensure customers were safely served food and drink.

According to documents submitted with the application, the outbuildings allowed the business to operate through the Covid pandemic and since then they continue to be used, particularly during the summer months.

"Retention of the premises as a successful restaurant will also ensure the long term maintenance of the existing listed building," the application states.

The original building dates from 19th century.

In 2021, the restaurant, an American-style diner, won Best Norfolk Restaurant and Best Business at the East of England Business Awards.
