The public is to get more time to share their views on the future of a coastal town after very few people responded.

Great Yarmouth Council's borough-wide design code provides further details to the area's local plan, setting out a framework for future planning decisions.

It legally needs to conduct a public consultation period to hear the plans and it is now looking to extend this period for a further four weeks.

It will now close on October 13, as so far the level of public engagement has been "quite low" according to council documents.

It comes amid a number of major development projects in the town, including the North Quay's riverside regeneration, which is described as the "most significant development for a generation" for the town.

It is hoped it will become a new vibrant destination and boost Yarmouth's economy.

The design code is a tool to help shape the scale and forms of development in Great Yarmouth.

It highlights the elements that give the coastal town its unique character as well as detailing area-specific design requirements to ensure new projects are in keeping with the existing character of the town.
