A woman who lives just metres away from a wall which was destroyed after a car crashed into it said she was shocked no one was injured.

Police were called to an address near St Nicholas Road in Great Yarmouth at 11.08pm on Monday following reports of a single-vehicle collision on Temple Road.

The car had struck a wall which borders homes on Coniston Square. There were no reported injuries as a result of the collision.

The area was cleared by 1am.

A woman who lives close to the scene shared her immediate fears for the children in the area.

The resident, who did not want to be named, said she could hear the car coming down the road before the eventual crash wiped out part of the wall just metres from her home.

The neighbour said: "I heard the car before I heard the crash. The engine sounded like the car was going at some speed.

"It was crazy to see the damage afterwards.

"How anybody made it out of that car in one piece is unbelievable."

The neighbour said she was in bed watching television at the time of the incident.

"I went out straight away to make sure my neighbours were okay," she said.

"I was told nobody was hurt.

"But if the car crashed just a few metres up the road, it would have gone into the crossing, and people could have been seriously hurt.

"There are a lot of kids around this area.

"It's lucky none of them were around at the time."

The neighbour said they went back to bed shortly after the crash but heard a lot of noise outside her home until around 5am.

On Tuesday morning, the bricks from the destroyed wall had been cleared from Temple Road. However, the bricks remained in place outside two Coniston Square homes.

There was residue of engine fluid on Temple Road.
