Eight fire crews, an aerial ladder and a control unit responded to the callout down the busy residential street, and it has been confirmed no one was injured as a result of the fire.

However, 30 of its residents have been left without a place to live.

Some of the Ashwood residents went to stay with friends, others found alternative places to stay and Great Yarmouth Borough Council is currently assisting the remaining people find appropriate accommodation.

Following the fire, the council opened a rest centre at St George’s Theatre to provide short-term accommodation, support and food for those who needed it.

There is also a callout for any donated clothes - suitable for men and women adults - to be handed in at Great Yarmouth Library today (July 24) to help the affected residents. Any items not required will be donated to charity shops in the area.

The council is also appealing to landlords or accommodation owners to get in touch if they have a room that could help those affected, all of whom are single and working.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined. But a spokesperson for Norfolk Fire and Rescue said: " A full investigation will be challenging due to structural damage preventing access to the scene."

It has been confirmed that the four-storey building's roof and interior have been badly damaged.

The property is now being assessed to determine what next steps will be required.

On Sunday, neighbours praised the "well-organised" response by the emergency services on Saturday morning.
