Crews from Norfolk and Suffolk were called to the scene of a large fire in Great Yarmouth.

Teams from both counties were sent to a blaze at flats along Nelson Road South at 9.22am on Saturday morning (July 22).

The crews were from Great Yarmouth, Gorleston, Loddon, Lowestoft North and Lowestoft South, with the aerial ladder platform from North Earlham.

The Incident Command Unit from Wymondham was also at the scene.

Pictures posted on social media showed smoke and police cars blocking the road.

Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service tweeted just before 11am and wrote: "We are currently dealing with a large building fire in Nelson Road South in Great Yarmouth.

"Please avoid the area to allow our crews to work effectively and safely. We currently have eight appliances, an aerial ladder and a control unit in attendance."

Crews wore breathing apparatus and used main jets and hose reel jets to extinguish the fire.

A thermal imaging camera was used to check for hot spots and the stop message was received at 10.53am.

The circumstances of the fire are not currently known, but no one is believed to have been injured in the incident.
