All the stalls in the second phase of Great Yarmouth’s new Market Place have now been provisionally leased.

Over the coming months, traders both old and new will move into the units at the latest section of the £4.7m building.

The vendors will be selling fruit and veg, rotisserie chicken, food from India, Thailand and Turkey, bath bombs and soaps, phone accessories, clothing – and of course the famous market chips.

All stalls have been insulated to regulate temperature and the light fittings are low-energy LED lights.

Many traders moved into the first section of the new six-day market that replaced the 30-year-old canopy.

The first phase of the new market has 15 stalls which are all let. The second phase will house a further 12 stalls, with space at the front for pop-up traders and room for a covered seating area.

In a joint statement, Great Yarmouth Borough Council leader Carl Smith and Labour group leader Trevor Wainwright said: "We know it has been tough for some traders with the ongoing construction of the new market buildings but we are extremely excited to see the final result.

"The six-day market is an important part of life in the borough and we will continue to do everything we can to support it.”

Work on the market project started in April 2021 and has seen some traders choose to not relocate.

The first phase of the market building was completed in June 2022.
