A village school has been praised by the education watchdog for giving children an 'extraordinarily good start'.

Ludham Primary School and Nursery, with a roll of 111 pupils, has been rated 'good' by Ofsted for the second time in a row.

Inspectors visited the school on May 5 and described it as a "well-resourced and welcoming indoor and outdoor learning environment".

"In the last 18 months, leaders and governors have worked hard to improve the curriculum.

"They have sought external guidance and specialist expertise to do this," inspectors said.

The report noted that from nursery through to Year 6, most of this curriculum is planned in detail, organised logically, appropriately resourced, and delivered successfully by staff.

Inspectors also said that pupils "value the importance of respect and kindness".

"This learning plays an integral role in how they treat each other and staff throughout the school day and others in the wider world."

Areas where the school could improve include ensuring that all staff have a better understanding of when pupils with special needs require more precise support, as well as more up-to-date monitoring of newer aspects of the curriculum.

Headteacher Andrea Goreham said: "I am truly delighted that the hard work undertaken by the pupils, staff, governors and parents at Ludham Primary School and Nursery has been recognised."

She noted the inspectors' comments regarding the children’s enjoyment of their learning, the exemplary behaviour of pupils and the recognition that staff go "above and beyond" to help the children to flourish academically, socially and emotionally.

"A huge well done and thank you to the Ludham team: children, parents, governors, staff and volunteers," she added.

"It is only through our combined efforts, dedication, hard work and kindness each and every day, that Ludham Primary School and Nursery is the great school it is."
