Cooking demos and samples are on offer at a Gorleston food festival on Saturday.

Families can get amongst local food and drink makers, artisan crafts and entertainment at The Local Flavours Festival on Lower Marine Parade from 10am.

At the Local Flavours Cookery Theatre, the culinary skills and hospitality department of East Coast College will showcase its cooking capabilities alongside chefs from some of the best restaurants and cafes in the county.

The festival will stretch along to the promenade, where visitors can connect with local businesses, browse stalls, sample food and drink from the area and enjoy music and other entertainment.

East Coast College will also be present promoting student work and offering advice on careers and educational support.

Gorleston's Local Flavours Festival is part-funded by the VENI project, a £2.5m scheme aimed at raising the profile of the hospitality and tourism industries.

VENI aims to raise awareness of career paths within the food and hospitality sector, supporting local businesses in towns and cities across Norfolk and Suffolk and helping businesses in the industry recruit and retain staff through skills and training support.

Asa Morrison, chief executive of Visit Great Yarmouth, a partner in the VENI project said: "This event provides a great opportunity for young people to learn and develop the skills necessary to run outdoor events, as well as providing a great day out for our residents and visitors."

The event runs until 4pm from Lower Marine Parade and onto the promenade. Music will be played throughout the day at the bandstand.

Local Flavours' Valerie Watson Brown said the VENI Project has engaged with hundreds of local businesses and students across Norfolk and Suffolk.

"And it's great to be returning to the seafront to support local businesses and the local colleges," she said.
