A year-round escape room is set to open on Great Yarmouth seafront in time for the summer holidays.

Following two years of tackling obstacles, the new attraction will open inside the former E.ON Scroby Sands Offshore Wind Farm Visitor Centre on the promenade north of the Britannia Pier.

Following the announcement of Great Yarmouth Escape Rooms in April 2021, entrepreneur Gavin Dean said he "had no idea the obstacles that lay ahead".

With the original opening date pencilled in for summer 2021, plans were stalled several times due to ongoing restrictions in place due to the Covid pandemic and finding the right venue.

However, plans have been approved and booking is planned to be open online by early June, with Great Yarmouth Escape Rooms officially opening in July.

In the meantime, Mr Dean's team will be partitioning the building, installing props and testing the new games which were designed in Dubai.

Mr Dean said: "Timing is crucial.

"We persevered even in 2021, hoping to be open by that summer. But more lockdowns and the tier system created more problems.

"We just had to be patient and carry on work behind the scenes."

Mr Dean said his team is adamant about the attraction being accessible and somewhere in the town.

"During the search, it became clear that a position on the seafront would be ideal," Mr Dean said.

"By luck, the Scroby Sands Visitor Centre vacated and became available.

"Me and my team are moving full steam ahead to have the venture up and running for July this year."

The team has worked with attraction designers in Dubai, prop builders in Europe, and is using experienced installers from the UK.
