A church in Gorleston is inviting its community to celebrate the coronation of King Charles by hosting a fun day.

St Mary Magdalene Church, supported by Freshly Greated and Magdalen Way Methodist Church, will be hosting Summer on the Mag for the coronation from 1pm to 5pm on Monday, May 8, on Magdalen Square.

The event will feature roving street artists, inflatables and rides, refreshments and music, with a full programme of acts performing on a stage outside the church.

There will also be an all-comers just-for-fun dog show, hosted by Pawsitive Partners, with categories such as the best dressed dog or the dog the judge would most like to take home.

Rev Matthew Price, Vicar of St Mary Magdalene Church, who will attend the coronation at Westminster Abbey, said: “Last year we held a very successful Summer on the Mag in celebration of the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and this year we’re back for the King’s coronation.

“Whether you are a royalist or not, we think the coronation is a brilliant opportunity to get together, have fun and celebrate all that is good about our community,” he said.

As May 8 has been designated The Big Help Out, the event will also be showcasing organisations that support the community and how people can get involved.

The event will be officially opened at 1pm by Lady Agnew, one of the county’s Deputy Lieutenants, and The Bishop of Lynn.

The opening will also feature a special performance of Coronation Day, a new song written especially for the coronation by the choir of local primary school, Ormiston Herman Academy.
