A former shop and launderette could be torn down to make way for housing.

Developer Alan Wright, of Wright Properties of East Anglia, is seeking permission to build five new houses on West Road in Ormesby.

The site is currently vacant and, according to the planning application, the existing buildings are "very run down, neglected and overgrown".

The properties consisted of a shop with living accommodation, a launderette and various outbuildings.

The premises ceased trading in December 2021.

The new development, if permitted, would have three two-bedroom, one three-bedroom and one four-bedroom houses.

Heating and hot water would be provided by air source heat pumps, while water saving measures would be incorporated to limit usage to 110 litres per day per person.

Electric vehicle charging points would also be provided to each house adjacent to its parking area.

A decision on the bid, which will be considered by planners at Great Yarmouth Borough Council, is expected by June 6.

A separate application to build seven houses off Foster Close, less than a mile from West Road, is still undecided.
