A children's fun park on the coast is planning to open a sensory area for children with special needs.

Pop's Meadow, in Pavilion Road in Gorleston, was closed over the winter but opened again on Sunday, April 2, for the new season.

Cherise Gray, who runs the park with her partner Lewis, said they are inviting children from the John Grant School in Caister to enjoy the park for a day free of charge next month.

"We want to give something back because I see how much people struggle," she said.

The owners are also hoping to get sponsorship from local businesses to open a sensory area for children with special needs.

"Fingers crossed that will be ready for the summer," Ms Gray said.

In the meantime, the park is boasting new attractions this year including a log boat ride which might satisfy those who miss the log flume that was removed from the Pleasure Beach last year.

There will also be a games unit that was outside Windsor Castle over the Christmas period and an expanded crazy golf course.

Last year the park offered an unlimited riding wristband for £9.99 but Ms Gray said this was no longer possible because of the cost of energy.

"Electricity has tripled. Everything here is electric. The fridge, the freezer, the hot plate, the rides," she said.

"We’ve gone back to the tokens, the way it was before. We haven’t put the price up. It’s still £2 a token.

"It’s not daylight robbery!"

The park, which reopened in 2021, is also charging £20 for 10 tokens plus two for free and £30 for 15 tokens plus five for free.

Pop's Meadow will be open every weekend and during school holidays until Sunday, October 29, before closing for the winter.
