The first bascule leaf section of Great Yarmouth's £121m third crossing is now being lifted into place by a giant crane.
Crowds on both sides of the River Yare are watching the bridge span be lifted into place by the Dutch Matador 3 crane.
A second section will be lifted into place by the end of a 72-hour process.
Norfolk County Council says the £121m scheme will ease traffic problems in the town and bring major economic benefits.
The crossing is to be called the Herring Bridge after a public vote.
