Auctions offer a chance for people to find a bargain property but they can also showcase real estate that is far from the ordinary.

From a former chippy to a timber merchant's workshop, here are some of the quirky Norfolk and Waveney properties that were snapped up by bidders at Auction House's monthly sale this week.

This former Chinese restaurant and fish and chips takeaway has not been used for more than 10 years and fell into a derelict state.

But bidders saw its potential this week, with the property selling £45,000 over the guide price.

Auctioneer Chris Bailey said: "Bidding was fast and furious following a number of open days.

"It sold to a developer who has other properties in the region and who has a number of options for what could be done to the space, ranging from retaining the ground floor restaurant with accommodation above or instead applying to convert it into two or three flats."

Mr Bailey said: "There was lots of interest from developers from East Anglia and beyond.

"It is the third property on South Quay that we have put up for auction in nine months and it is likely it will go to planning to be converted into a residential property.

"Perhaps it will become one big family house or two or three flats."
