People have spoken of their shock and fear after a man was stabbed to death in broad daylight just yards from Great Yarmouth's Golden Mile.

The victim was attacked on the town's St Peter's Road, just back from the seafront, at about 12.40pm on Wednesday.

Police are hunting his killer but have yet to make any arrests.

The incident started outside a supermarket where the victim was stabbed while walking in the road. He then staggered to nearby Wellington Road, where he collapsed.

Witnesses say members of the public made desperate attempts to save the man's life, before emergency services arrived. However, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Locals in the area say the murder has left them fearing for their safety, with many too scared to give their names.

Karolina Visockyte, who has lived in the town for 13 years and works at a nearby office, said: "It is really upsetting and shocking.

"This happened in the middle of the day. People should be having their lunch.

"I was so traumatised I had to leave work and go home and be with my kids.

“I don’t feel safe in the town anymore when you see shocking things like this."

Another resident, who moved to Yarmouth from London in 2004, said he did so to get away from the knife crime in the capital.

“Yarmouth is getting bad, this is really worrying," he added.

"I have four kids here and my eldest son is 14 years old.

"I left London for a reason to avoid gang-related stuff and I’m now concerned that the town is getting worse and worse.

"It is becoming all too common in the town now."

Taylor Foster, 22, who lives near the murder scene, said his parents now want to move out of the town.

Mr Foster said: “As soon as my dad found out he rang my mum and said we need to find a new house. My little sister is 12 and we are all worried about her future growing up here.

“Yesterday when we got home we had to be escorted to our front door because the end of our road was taped off."

The shopkeeper of coffee shop Yednotta UK said murders were no longer "uncommon" in the town.

"It was quite scary. This happened just a street away," he said.

"We didn't see the incident, but we saw the commotion of people running, shouting and then police on the scene soon after.

"But we are not surprised, it is not uncommon in Yarmouth anymore which is such a shame."

Ronald Rumsby, who walks his dog Oscar along Wellington Road every day and has lived in the Nelson Ward area of Yarmouth for more than 50 years, said: “I am worried about the next generation.

"I think it is cowardly to carry a weapon. If people are going to fight, do it with their hands."

One resident of Wellington Road, who has lived for three years, said he had experienced constant issues with vandalism.

He said: “This road is getting so bad with drugs and alcohol, theft, vandalism and violence.

"I have had push bikes and an electric scooter stolen, a car keyed and smashed up, and I've only been here three years, it's awful. Something needs to be done."
