A care home owner in Great Yarmouth said she has been on standby to evacuate residents since yesterday.

Following the discovery of an unexploded bomb at Bollards Quay in Southtown on Tuesday, staff at Avery Lodge care home - which sits at the edge of the 400m exclusion zone - have been ready to evacuate at any time.

However, care home owner Sheryl Anne Hodgins said she has avoided evacuating the 14 residents pre-empitvely because of their complex needs.

Mrs Hodgins said: "Right now, it would safer for our service users to be here.

"All we'd have at a rest centre would be electricity for appliances.

"Moving my service users yesterday for something that's going to happen tomorrow is not good."

Staff have prepared a minivan and a trailer containing everything from adaptive seating and specialised diet plans in the event of an emergency evacuation.

Mrs Hodgins added: "We have been told we will be notified ahead of time should we need to evacuate the building," she said.

"And we could be out of here in 10 minutes."
