Armed police were called to a home in Great Yarmouth after two women were assaulted and a man was in possession of a knife.

Police were called to reports of an altercation at a home in Crittens Road, in the Cobholm Island area.

Officers were also informed that a man was carrying a knife. 

Firearms officers and a police negotiator were called to the address at 7.19pm on Tuesday (December 27) and the road was closed at both ends.

The incident was resolved and a man in his 50s was taken to the James Paget Hospital for treatment before being arrested on suspicion of two counts of assault, possession of a bladed weapon and criminal damage.

He was taken to Great Yarmouth Police Station for questioning, where he remains.
