Around 500 Christmas stockings have been given to people in Great Yarmouth to help raise festive spirits.

Hundreds of stockings containing Christmas goods and toys were given inside The Priory Centre on Wednesday.

Children and families gathered inside the centre to receive donations put together by the team from Football Against Dementia Community Interest Company (formerly Mandalay Wellbeing).

This year marks the organisation's fifth annual Christmas Stocking Campaign, and it was said to have been an "amazing effort".

Organiser Trevor Saunders said: "It was the toughest year ever.

"The cost-of-living crisis was really visible this time - with demand outstripping supply. But hopefully, the presents have found their way to people who will appreciate them."

Since starting the campaign in 2018, the team from Football Against Dementia have distributed over 8,000 Christmas stockings to people across Norfolk and Waveney.

This year, the organisation was supported by Barclays Great Yarmouth, who allowed the team to distribute stockings from the town centre branch on Monday.

Cliff Park Ormiston Academy, Aviva and Rapid Relief Team UK also assisted in this year's Christmas Stocking Campaign.
