A less traditional Christmas lights switch-on has taken place in Great Yarmouth - with the mayor powering up more than 200 solar panels.
Councillor Graham Plant was invited to turn on 224 brand new photo voltaic modules installed on the roof of the headquarters of electronics manufacturer GeoAcoustics on the Gapton Hall Industrial Estate.
This is the first phase of a project that will see a total of more than 400 solar panels installed at the electronics manufacturer.
Partly funded by a grant from the Eastern New Energy (ENE) Programme, GeoAcoustics’ new solar panels have a total capacity of 100 KW connected to a 50 KW battery, providing enough clean energy to meet more than half of the company’s annual demand.
General manager Richard Dowdeswell said: “We take our impact on the environment very seriously as hitting net zero is an important goal for us all at GeoAcoustics, and reducing our dependence on the national grid is a milestone step on our journey."
