A tutor has released a Christmas themed-parody of a 1990s psychedelic dance classic that stormed the music charts.

Dan Gallagher, 35, has turned the 1992 number one single Ebeneezer Goode by The Shamen into a festive-themed song about the miserly Christmas Carol character Ebenezer Scrooge.

Mr Gallagher, a tutor and safeguarding lead for Century Training Academy on Southgates Road in Great Yarmouth, wrote the song five years ago.

He said the song which he performed as Dan G was inspired by "that one friend who tries to dodge a round at the bar".

"We've all got one," Mr Gallagher said.

"Now we can all sing and point him out with 'he’s a Scrooge, he’s a Scrooge.”

However, Mr Gallagher - from Belton and who is also a stand-up comedian and former scriptwriter for BBC Voices - decided to not do anything with the single at first, as he wanted to do something bigger with its release.

"I decided putting the song out at Christmas and donating all the money raised to different charities would be a great thing to do," he said.

"This time of year is all about giving, and I really just want to make a difference while raising the spirits of listeners."

Ebenezer Scrooge by Dan G is available on all music streaming platforms now.

Bad Monkey Records produced the single and managed to acquire the rights to use the music originally made by the Scottish psychedelic group The Shamen.

"It was a great process," Mr Gallagher said.

"We got it all recorded after a couple of days, and we were ready to go.

"We've now sent the music out, and any money raised will be going to the homeless and children with cancer."

Keeping with the spirit of giving, Mr Gallagher said he will be visiting Great Yarmouth town centre to hand out hats and gloves to homeless people in the lead-up to Christmas.

After Christmas, he will head to James Paget University Hospital and donate the money raised to cancer wards and childrens wards.

"I just want to try and give back as much I can," he said.

Mr Gallagher thanked Bad Monkey Records and his friends and family.
