As Cavalier King Charles spaniels Rowley, Loki and Wilf go for walks along Gorleston clifftop, people will see three very excitable and loving dogs straining at the leash.

But clifftop goers would never imagine the three canines are now taking the lead in the literary world by writing their own book - albeit with a little human help.

Rowley, Loki and Wilf are the 'authors' of a book called How to Become a Film Star When You Are a Dog.

With the help of their owner Beverley Murray-Wood, the four-legged writers' book details how they set out to make a film, with a movie company called Wisney interested in their pitch and setting up a studio in Great Yarmouth.

Each dog has 'written' its own chapter and the book also features their canine friends who they regularly meet on their Gorleston walks.

Ms Murray-Wood, 65 and from Bradwell, said: "It is a book written by three dogs. I am just the ghostwriter.

"It is written from the perspective of the dogs. It is their voice I have hopefully given.

"The ideas come from the characters they are.

"They have this idea mad about becoming film stars and they want to make a movie.

"It is a little bit satirical about the movie world, but gently.

"The warehouse-cum-studio the film people bring over here is in Great Yarmouth. Wisney bring their gear over here to Great Yarmouth."

Rowley and Loki are 10 and come from the same litter and Wilf is three.

Ms Murray-Wood said: "Anyone who knows cavaliers will recognise a lot of the character traits.

"They are very affectionate, very intelligent and happy and playful and inquisitive and I think this is where the idea of the book comes from."

She had moved to Norfolk from Halesworth in north Suffolk about a year ago and she has written five children's picture books.

She had worked as a PA for a television newsroom and had been a legal secretary.

The other dogs featured in the book belong to friends Chris and Kay Terry and Andrea Ellis. The friends called themselves the Cavvy 10.
