The transformation of a former Great Yarmouth department store into a learning hub has taken another step forward.
Great Yarmouth Borough Council has submitted a planning application to change the use of the former Palmers/Beales store, which closed in March 2020, from commercial and retail to educational.
The building will house the relocated town library, new classrooms for university and adult learning, the registry office and other community services such as Citizens Advice.
East Coast College, the University of Suffolk and the University of East Anglia will have classrooms on the first, second and third floors.
Plans also include new ground floor entrance from Market Place and 20 cycle spaces.
Palmers was built in 1837 and was the first building with electric light in Great Yarmouth in 1902.
It survived two major fires and bomb damage.
A decision on the plans is expected by February 15 next year.
