Plans are gathering pace to turn a coastal village's playing field into a winter wonderland for families to enjoy for free.

Caister Wonderland is coming to the village's King George V Playing Field on Saturday, December 3.

Preparations are now ramping up for the free-to-enter event, including digging a hole for a Christmas tree and making sure Father Christmas has his sleigh and reindeer ready.

Great Yarmouth Mercury:

The Caister event will have a whole host of fun festive activities and stalls and has been set up to help bring the village together during these uncertain times.

Karina Green is one of the three organisers of the event at the field, which is run as a charity.

She said: "Caister Wonderland is a free-to-attend community Christmas spectacular which is being hosted by the King George V Playing Field in Caister, which is a registered charity.

"Our main aims are to bring together the community at Christmas time during a period of difficult financial worry.

"We aim to have as many activities as possible cheap or free and bookable in advance to help spread the cost.

"The event is also free to attend and has activities and attractions that rival lots of other events that charge entry fees.

"We have a jam-packed day full of activities plus a full schedule of live performances including choirs, brass bands and dramatic performances."

There will be a funfair, a Christmas market with 70 stalls and workshops, such wreath-making and brownie decorating and Santa's grotto.

There will also be a giant snow globe, a chance to drive festive cars around a track and reindeer to meet.

Ms Green said 75pc of the slots at Santa's Grotto had already been booked and all the workshops are now bookable.

There is also a mini Santa Paws grotto for dogs and their owners to enjoy.

The other main organisers are Sinead Southern and Tanya Ray.

Caister Playing Field Management Committee is made up of volunteers from user groups of the field and pavilion, and members of the community.

Caister Wonderland runs from 11am and 5pm on Saturday, December 3.
