For their role in rescuing a child and two women from a flat fire, the Great Yarmouth White Watch and Great Yarmouth Retained Control White Watch received a certificate of commendation at the Norfolk Fire Service Awards.
In the early morning of December 15, 2015, watch manager Kevin Game and his crew helped a family trapped in a flat on Hall Plain, Great Yarmouth.
A child and two women were hanging out of an upstairs window, trying to breathe fresh air among acrid smoke. Their survival time was very limited.
Firefighter Masterson twice climbed a ladder to rescue them, and he and they suffered smoke inhalation.
Station manager Scott Norman said: “It is unquestionable that without the speed of response from the crew and the decisive action from watch manager Game, this incident could have resulted in a very different outcome.”
