AN APPEAL for volunteers and donations has gone out ahead of Wednesday's official opening of the fourth charity shop for Big C - Norfolk and Waveney's own cancer charity at 33, Regent Street in Great Yarmouth.

Doors to the shop will however open tomorrow morning. It will sell all types of donated goods, including clothing, bridal wear, furniture, books, bric-a-brac and small electrical items.

The opening will take place between 3-5pm and the ribbon will be cut by Radio Norfolk's Graham Barnard and Karen Buchanan at around 3.30pm.

Retail development manager for the charity Richard Lee said: “We are really excited about expanding our retail operation into Great Yarmouth, where we hope locals and visitors to the town will show their support. We have a few volunteers lined up to help man the shop, but really need more, so if you have some spare time to help your local cancer charity, either on the shop floor or in the stockroom, then please do give us a call on 01603 619900 and request an application form or just pop into the shop and have a chat.”

Good quality stock is always needed and donated items in good condition are much appreciated.

Big C funds equipment for the hospitals in the region including James Paget University Hospital, to which in 2007 the charity awarded a grant of £52,910 for an ultrasound machine for breast screening.

It also funds the Big C Centre at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, where patients and their families from across the county can receive psychological, emotional and economic support. Donations also enable Big C to fund world-class research into cancer at the University of East Anglia.
