A Norfolk record label whose tracks have exploded online is hoping to put the county on the drum and bass map with a new release featuring all local artists.
For 26-year-old Fenn Hacon, who grew up just outside Great Yarmouth, drum and bass music has been a lifelong soundtrack.
From the early days of hanging out at his father’s record shop, Hollow Bones, he knew he wanted to play a part in the future of the genre.
And 18 months ago, that dream became a reality when he launched his own record label, Nuform, alongside his friend Tim Zouridis, specialising in giving up-and-coming drum and bass artists a platform.
Less than two years on from its initial launch, the label’s debut track ‘Flute’ has racked up an impressive 21m streams and more than 1,000 radio plays, thanks in no small part to the attention it has received on social media.
Mr Hacon said the success was overwhelming, and added: “It was kind of crazy seeing it blow up like that.
“It’s like we appeared out of nowhere and people on the drum and bass scene were suddenly like ‘what is this label?’”
Following on from the triumph of its debut, Nuform is releasing a new record by Norfolk artist Waypoint and singer Archie Beck, who Mr Hacon discovered singing at a Christmas market in Norwich.
He said he hopes the track will highlight the talent here in East Anglia.
He said: “The drum and bass scene here isn’t as strong as it is in places like Bristol, which is really the capital of the genre.
“It's a tight knit but very talented community we’ve got.
“Our end goal is to get a premises here with an onsite studio and recording equipment where we can host artists and managers.”
